Espoo, Finland, May 2023. Euformatics, a Finnish bioinformatics company that develops world-leading NGS interpretation and quality control tools, has announced a distribution partnership with Zahrawi Group, a regional distributor in the Gulf area for, Surgical, Medical, Nuclear Medicine, Diagnostic, Analytical Lab, consumables and software. The agreement covers the markets of Bahrain, Oman and United Arab Emirates (UAE) with the objective of streamlining the path for local laboratories to become Euformatics Genomics Hub users.

The agreement marks an important milestone for Euformatics in its expansion in the Middle East region where the UAE-headquartered company Zahrawi covers the Arabian gulf cooperation council (GCC) through its operations. With an established presence in the market, Zahrawi is a go-to pathway for local laboratories marketing the Genomics Hub products from Euformatics that includes the best-in-class real-time sample quality control and validation software tools, as well as the comprehensive fully automated variant interpretation tool taking the sequenced data all the way to clinical reporting.

Zahrawi Medical Group has a successful history going back to its founding in 1989 providing in-vitro clinical diagnostic and research tools to customers in the Middle East. Its mission to “improve people’s lives every day with attracting competent talent, providing smart solutions, innovative products, and outstanding services” positions it well with Euformatics drive to accelerate the transition to precision medicine, and its strong application specialist team enables the company to provide high quality training and support to its customers. Al Zahrawi distributes many leading brands in the clinical diagnostics space, including Illumina NGS instruments and consumables.

Abdulrahman Ramadan, Zahrawi Group GROUP CEO says, “NGS is growing at a strong rate all around the world and the Arabian GCC is no exception. We are impressed with the smart innovation, modularity and compatibility of the Genomics Hub software tools in analyzing and reporting clinical samples resonating with our mission. We believe that the tools from Euformatics will make a real positive impact on the way NGS is used in the Middle East in line with what our customers are looking for to expand their testing capabilities in the coming years”

Euformatics CEO, Tommi Kaasalainen, commented that “We see a lot of activity in the MEA area in Next Generation Sequencing. Many governments placed a lot of NGS instruments in their countries during the pandemic to conduct pathogen surveillance and those instruments can now be put into use in population genome projects and bringing precision medicine closer to routine diagnostics. Al Zahrawi has the right capabilities to support their customers in making this transition happen and our tools play a key part in that. I am looking forward to a fruitful collaboration.”

The agreement adds to the list of announcements from Euformatics as the team started to put more focus on the Middle Eastern markets a few years ago. While serving the European market mostly directly the need for having a local representative in other regions has become clear. The right partner in each market is key to our continued growth.

The agreement is yet another step in Euformatics’ journey in building a partner network in the Middle East region, a goal for 2022 that has seen progress at a steady rhythm.

Euformatics signed the distribution agreement with Zahrawi leadership team in Dubai, UAE.
