Christophe Roos, PhD

Co-founder, Managing Director

Christophe Roos has a long experience in life sciences. He has a Master of Science degree in Genetics, in Mathematics and Chemistry from the University of Helsinki, Finland. He has a PhD degree in Molecular biology (CNRS/LGME, INSERM) from the Université Louis Pasteur (Strasbourg I, France). He became a Docent in developmental genetics at the University of Helsinki in 1995.

Christophe started his career as a researcher & computer systems analyst at the University of Helsinki. His applied molecular biology techniques to understand the interaction of genes on germ line stem cell development. Computational biology has been an important complementary track. Between 1995 and 2000 he worked as principal investigator in the developmental biology program at the Institute of Biotechnology (University of Helsinki). In late 2000, Christophe joined Medicel, a software startup company that was to develop a systems biology platform. His responsibility was the development of an integrative software research infrastructure for deep integration of databases, for research information management, measurement data analysis and process documentation in the field of biological, medical and systems biology research. After working over nine years for Medicel he founded Euformatics Ltd with Juha Helttunen, Jukka Matilainen and Jussi Volanen, all previous workmates from Medicel. Christophe has also worked as a lecturer at several universities over these years.

Because of his long working experience in the field of life sciences, Christophe has a vast knowledge of molecular as well as computational biology. Christophe has authored and co-authored a number of scientific articles in a wide range of journals. He is especially qualified in working in the interface between biologists and computer scientists and in getting problems solved.

Jukka Matilainen, M.Sc. (tech)

Jukka Matilainen's Master of Science thesis in Computer Science to Helsinki University of Technology, Finland, dealt with tools for probabilistic modelling in bioinformatics software systems. He has a strong experience in systems biology and software development. He worked over five years for Medicel and was responsible for specifying and designing the Medicel Integrator platform. Jukka is specialized in modelling of biological systems. He has also a strong experience in software development that he gained while creating several tools and libraries for Medicel Integrator platform. Recently, Jukka co-authored a scientific article in PLoS ONE.

Jussi Volanen, M.Sc. (tech)

Jussi Volanen has a Master of Science degree in Computer Science from Helsinki University of Technology. He has a strong experience in software development and databases. Jussi has a long experience in developing Medicel Integrator platform and administrating multiple databases in terabyte range. As a senior architect in Medicel, his responsibilities included planning and designing the Medicel Integrator platform, especially its server side. Jussi achieved Oracle Certified Associate (OCA) certificate in 2008 followed by Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) certificate in 2009. He has also achieved Oracle SQL Expert certificate in 2009 and Microsoft SQLServer certificate in 2003.

Olli Pasanen, M.Sc. (tech), MBA

Olli Pasanen is currently managing director in Planum Partners. He has a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Tampere University of Technology, Finland. He also has a Master of Science degree in International Business (MBA) from Ecole supérieure de Commerce de Grenoble, France. Olli has a long experience in business development, marketing and sales. As a sales director at Sasken Finland Ltd he was responsible for global customer relations and European sales. At Botnia Hightech Ltd he was responsible for marketing and sales. At Ionific Ltd he worked as a CEO for over five years.
